Virginia is 66. She fell over and broke her wrist. She was sent for a bone density scan that reveled she was suffering with osteoporosis.
Her doctor put her on medication to strengthen her bones, but also advised her that she should take up strength and weight bearing exercise to hep strengthen her bones and balance exercises to help prevent any future falls.
She has taken up walking, using a stick for confidence. She has also tried Nordic walking, with 2 sticks, that she found gave her even more confidence.
“I enjoy the walking and I’ve also joined a Tai Chi class. I really enjoy the camaraderie, and my balance is getting better. I could never stand on one leg before, now I can do it. I didn’t realise you could learn to balance. I just thought some people could and some people couldn’t.”
