Sue developed breast cancer when she was in her early fifties. She had chemo and radiotherapy and a mastectomy. Her doctor advised her to stay active throughout her treatment and afterwards.

“The treatments really took their toll on me, but exercise helped me cope. I was tired with the treatments, but exercise didn’t seem to make me any more tired.”

“Having an illness like breast cancer, and having a mastectomy affects your confidence. I went from believing I could tackle anything to feeling vulnerable and worried about how people would view me. Getting out of the house and walking really helped me regain my confidence.”

“I haven’t been back to the gym, I don’t feel comfortable with my appearance yet, but I am walking and cycling – I can wear what I want and I feel so much better for it.”
