Geoff has gastric cancer and needs an operation.

As Geoff was unfit the anesthetist was concerned about the risks of the operation and so the operation was postponed. Geoff discussed this with his GP who advised he started a gentle exercise regime to improve his fitness.

“I decided to try walking once a day, on the advice of my doctor. Thinking about it I realise I wasn’t doing any exercise at all. I had got really lazy. Walking is easy, I don’t need to buy any special gear, I can wear my normal clothes and shoes. It’s given me something to take my mind of the operation.”

Geoff’s fitness level has now improved to a point where the anesthetist is happy to carry out the operation.
