Gary is 55 and suffers from schizophrenia. He’s lonely and wants to make some new friends. After talking with is doctor he decided to join a walking group.

“Most of the other members are retired. They’re older than me. I’m unemployed so I can go out walking in the daytime with them. It’s fine that they are older, I don’t mind.”

“I like walking, it’s gentle. Some schizophrenics I know have advised that vigorous exercise, you know like running or going to the gym, makes them go a bit manic, I don’t want to risk that.”

“I’ve also started doing some small gardening jobs for my walking friends, so I’m getting exercise there too.”
